Wood declaration

In accordance with the Consumer Information Act, mutoni.ch declares the wood species and origin of its solid wood furniture. The scientific name of the wood species can be determined using the WBF wood database.

Maple
The wood of the maple tree is a medium-weight and valuable noble hardwood that has excellent durability when dried and is used for high-quality furniture. The wood is easy to process and absorbs paint and varnish very well.

Bamboo
Strictly speaking, bamboo is a type of grass whose wood copes very well with moisture and temperature fluctuations. This is why it is particularly popular in the sanitary and wellness sector. It is also suitable for solid furniture and parquet flooring. The advantage of solid furniture made from bamboo is that it is not heavy compared to furniture made from other woods and is easier to move.

Birch
Due to its very high resistance to dryness and moisture, it is very popular in joineries. The fine growth rings create light and dark stain-like light effects, which are accentuated by the silky lustre of this wood. Birch wood is light yellow to honey-coloured and relatively soft and should therefore not be used on surfaces subject to wear, such as entrance areas or stairs.

Pear wood
Pear wood is very expensive due to its limited availability and is highly valued for its reddish grain in the construction of solid wood furniture, veneers and flooring. The low availability is due to the small growth of the pear tree. The wood can only be utilised when the tree is very old.

Beech
The hard wood of the beech is heavy and has good bending strength despite its high density. This makes it suitable for the production of sturdy furniture and hard-wearing interior design elements such as floors or stairs.

Douglas fir
Douglas fir wood is not used for furniture construction. However, it is suitable for outdoor use. There it can be used to make windows and doors. Due to its fast growth, this wood is readily available and inexpensive.

Ebony
Due to the striped and striking appearance of the wood, it is often used in combination with calmer lacquered surfaces. It is one of the most individual woods of all and is a price-intensive wood due to its low availability.

Oak
As a very valuable hardwood with excellent durability, oak is used for the production of table tops, floors and veneers. The visual refinement of each piece of furniture is lent by the beautiful structure for which the growth of the oak is responsible.

Yew
Yew wood is mainly used as a veneer for classic furniture or in period furniture. Due to its rarity and because it is a protected species and has become very rare, most joineries do not use it in furniture making.

Alder
This wood is used for solid wood furniture and flooring. It is warm and very individual due to its dark inclusions.

Ash
Ash is one of the quieter woods and is not processed with knots. The structure of ash is particularly similar to that of oak. Ash wood is often whitewashed or stained in colour and is then used in the construction of solid wood furniture.

Spruce
This wood is used in furniture construction due to its beautiful grain and straight growth. This wood is outstanding due to its further use in aircraft, ship and furniture construction. The wood takes a particularly long time to dry due to its high resin content. If the wood is not sufficiently dried, cracks can occur from which resin can escape.

Jatoba
The Jatoba tree is native to the rainforests of the Amazon region and parts of Central America. Due to its medium availability, this hardwood is used for solid furniture, veneers, parquet flooring and interior fittings. It is an alternative to tiles, particularly in the bathroom and wellness area.

Kambala
Kambala trees can be found in the heavily forested countries of West Africa. The wood from these trees is used in Africa for exterior constructions, shipbuilding and flooring. In Germany, this wood has no significance in furniture construction.

Pine
Pine wood is light and rich in resin. If it is not sufficiently dried, cracks can develop from which resin can escape. It is ideal as construction timber for making wooden structures such as patio roofing.

Cherry tree
Once the fruit-bearing phase of cherry trees is over, they are ideal for furniture making. Furniture such as tables, chests of drawers, display cabinets and cupboards are made from this wood, which can create a very warm ambience in living rooms thanks to its reddish-brown colouring. The beautiful veneer pattern makes it suitable for flooring.

Larch
Due to its rustic, warm appearance, it is mainly used in country house style. It is mainly used for facades, exterior flooring and interior fittings.

Lime tree
Lime wood is used for small objects and carving work as it is very soft and is therefore not suitable for furniture making.

Mahogany
Mahogany is a tropical hardwood with low availability and a Brinell hardness of 40. In earlier days, it was often used as a dark red wood for period furniture and veneers.

Merbau
This wood is suitable for solid wood furniture, veneers and interior fittings. It is a tropical hardwood with medium availability, which is quite expensive and has a Brinell hardness of 50. It is not used in German furniture construction. However, it can be found in sanitary areas, where its special properties make it a water-resistant building material, especially for flooring.

Walnut
Walnut wood is used for veneers, parquet flooring and solid wood furniture. Despite its high availability, it is quite expensive. The grain pattern is revealed by oiling and the solid processing of this material and, when used in combination with oak, creates exciting interior designs.

Rosewood
Rosewood can be used in solid wood furniture, veneers and parquet flooring. It is a tropical hardwood with medium availability and is quite expensive. It is comparable to walnut wood, which it closely resembles in colour and structure.

Teak
This tropical hardwood is widely used for garden furniture in Germany and requires some care to maintain its warm brown colour. If it is not sufficiently cared for, it turns greyish and becomes unattractive. As it is water-resistant and does not become slippery when wet, it can be used well for flooring in bathrooms. It is also used for solid wood furniture and veneers and is expensive with medium availability.
