Cantilever chairs: bringing movement to sitting

Cantilever chairs are very popular because they not only look very attractive, but are also particularly comfortable to sit on. The typical shape makes it possible to rock slightly when sitting, which most people find very pleasant. Cantilever chairs are used in many areas. Not only in private areas, e.g. grouped around a dining table, but also in many public areas, e.g. in the waiting area of doctors' surgeries.

What types of cantilever chairs are there?

The main difference between cantilever chairs is whether they have armrests or not. Each form has its advantages. In many cases, a chair with armrests is more comfortable, while the models without armrests look slimmer and particularly functional. The chairs are available with backrests of different heights. Models with high backrests are particularly comfortable and look very elegant. The design of the backrest, seat and armrests is important for comfortable sitting. Comfortably upholstered cantilever chairs offer a particularly comfortable sitting experience. Cantilever chairs without upholstery have a more upbeat effect and are often very comfortable even without upholstery.

Cantilever chairs are equally popular for furnishing dining rooms, kitchens and meeting rooms. There is no question as to why, as these special dining chairs exude a certain elegance thanks to the contrasting combination of materials, leather or textile upholstery in combination with a metal frame. The resilient body guarantees maximum seating comfort. In contrast to classic chairs, cantilever chairs appear much lighter, but still have the same stability. If you also appreciate the advantages of this type of chair, then you are in the best hands with Mutoni Möbel. In our online shop, you can buy cantilever chairs with every conceivable cover in a wide range of colours. High-quality chairs that are hard to beat in terms of quality.

What makes cantilever chairs so special?

Cantilever chairs, also known as swing chairs or cantilever chairs, came into fashion at the beginning of the 20th century. Initially, these chairs were only used to furnish youth rooms and bars before they found their way into reception areas, kitchens, offices and waiting rooms. An elegant, timeless, slim design is not the only thing that characterises the cantilever chair. In contrast to the classic chair, the cantilever chair has no chair legs in the true sense of the word.
The seat is held in place by an artistically designed tubular metal construction. This in turn rests on a sturdy chrome skid frame. As soon as someone sits on a cantilever chair and the load on the seat increases, the tubular metal construction gives way slightly and the resulting forces are transferred to the skid frame.

The sled base in turn transfers the forces to the floor and ensures comfortable and cosy seating. In addition to cantilever chairs, you can also buy loungers, sofas and stools designed according to the same principle.

What materials are cantilever chairs made from?

A wide variety of materials are used to manufacture cantilever chairs. While the frame is usually made of metal, such as aluminium or chrome, manufacturers give free rein to their imagination when designing the backrest and seat. At the moment, the more eye-catching, the better, because it almost seems as if there is a real competition among manufacturers of cantilever chairs to create new designs. A small competition from which you as a customer benefit.

If you want to buy cantilever chairs today, you can choose between faux leather, leather or textile-covered chairs. Of course, you can also buy cantilever chairs covered with rattan. This combination of materials exudes a certain elegance that is emphasised by a certain homely warmth. Exotic and beautiful, cantilever chairs whose frames are made of grained wood, while the seat is covered with genuine leather.

Tip: In small kitchens, there is hardly any room for the classic dining table. The good alternative is a bar table complemented by matching cantilever chairs. The perfect seating option for having breakfast with the family or sitting together with friends.

All cantilever chairs listed in our online shop can also be viewed directly in our furniture shop. Can you feel the cool metal of the frame under your fingers, can you smell the characteristic leather scent of the upholstery? If you have any questions about our products, you can speak directly to our advisors on site. They are always happy to take the time to help you choose the right cantilever chair for you.

What cantilever chairs are made of

The base frame of these chairs always consists of bent steel tubes that allow for a slightly springy movement when sitting. The seats and backrests can be made of different materials, e.g. leather, imitation leather, wood, plastic or textile material. There is also a wide choice of colours, so there is a chair to suit every ambience.

Where can I find these beautiful chairs?

A large selection of appealing models for every taste, e.g. from KARE Design or Mutoni Design, can be found in the mutoni.ch online shop. These chairs are highlights that combine functionality with seating comfort and great design.
